Trans Collaborations is a community-based partnership between transgender and gender diverse people (TGD) and academic researchers. It was initiated by Debra Hope (UNL), Richard Mocarski (UNK), and Nathan Woodruff (the chair of the Nebraska Local Community Board) in 2014 to improve health care services for TGD individuals in the Central Great Plains. Their aim is to build a network of researchers and communities focused on producing accountable research and resources for TGD communities in areas with limited resources.

In September 2018, Trans Collaborations realized the Nebraska Local Community Board's long-time aspiration by launching Camp BOLD, a camp designed for families with transgender/gender diverse children.

In 2023, Camp Bold ended its partnership with the University of Nebraska and rebranded as Great Plains Camp Bold Inc., continuing Camp BOLD's mission.

TGD children often face challenges attending camps, such as housing arrangements and being treated respectfully by other campers and staff. Camp BOLD addresses these issues by providing a safe and inclusive environment for TGD children and their families.

Campers participate in typical camp activities such as swimming, fishing, crafts, and campfire singing. This setting allows gender diverse children to express themselves freely among peers with similar experiences. Siblings enjoy the camp while connecting with similar families. Parents benefit from a stress-free weekend, assured that their families are accepted and supported without judgement. Many volunteer staff members are transgender and gender diverse adults, providing families with positive role models who lead fulfilling lives.

Since its inception, we have welcomed families from Nebraska, South Dakota, Iowa and Missouri for a weekend of summer camp festivities.
